Addison Claire- 5 Months

Addison Claire’s 5 month update, I can’t believe my baby girl is already 5 months old! It was around this time last year we found out we were expecting, and time has flown by ever since then. Oh goodness, I almost refused to title this post “5 Month Update” because there is no way my baby is 5 months old already!  It was around this time last year that we found out we were expecting, and time has just flown by ever since then (except for the last 2 weeks that I was pregnant… that was slower than a heard of snails traveling through peanut butter).

GROWTH

Addison has seriously doubled in size this month.  Okay, that might be an over exaggeration, but she went from feeling like a newborn to basically a toddler this month!  We had our well baby check a couple of days ago and Addi is topping the scales at 13 lbs 12 oz.  She’s also catching up on the charts and is now in the 23rd percentile for weight and 68th percentile for height.  We were concerned about her being tiny, but our pediatrician assured us she’s perfectly healthy, just long and lean.

EAT

Addison has been eating like crazy lately!  She usually eats 4-5 oz in a sitting, and eats every 3-4 hours.  This past week I think we hit a little bit of a growth spurt because there are times she doesn’t even make it 3 hours and she’s hungry again.  I have basically been exclusively pumping and supplimenting with donor milk, because I usually produce about half of what Addi needs to get through the day.  I occasionally still breast feed her, but our time in between feedings is usually shorter then because she doesn’t get as much.

As I mentioned in my last update, we are planning on starting baby led weaning as soon as Addison can sit up unassisted.  She is very interested in what we are eating, and is starting to grab at our food during mealtimes.  We did give her a little piece of rice to try, but she spit it out as soon as it hit her mouth.  I’m sure it was just really different for her and we’ll have many more instances like that as we try it out!

CLOTHES

Our 3 month clothes are starting to get really snug.  I’m surprised at how fast we are outgrowing our 3 month clothes, mainly because we were stuck in our newborn clothes for 3 months.  We are so excited for Spring to come and to try out some fun, warmer weather outfits that have been sitting in our closet!

PLAY & DEVELOPMENT

Addi loves blowing bubbles and spitting!  She’s always enjoyed bathtime, but this month she has started kicking and splashing in the water.  She loves her puppy, Charlie, and we’ve been practicing “nice petting”, because she really likes to grab his hair and not let go.  Charlie is a really good sport and doesn’t react, but I’m worried about her catching him off-guard and having him knip at her.  She loves zoning in to the TV, and tries to turn so she can see it when we lay her on the living room floor.

“FIRSTS”

  • First time rolling over from tummy to back!
  • First visit to the eye doctor.  We had a mild case of conjunctivitis, but a couple days of eye drops and it cleared right up.
  • First sleep over at Papa Rob & Grandma Gail’s house.  Daddy went to Deadwood for the weekend, so we had our own little slumber party.
  • First time trying real food (even if it was just a piece of rice 😉 ).
  • First cousin sleepover!  Our cousin, Addison, invited all of us over for a big cousin sleepover!  We ate pizza, played games, and went to bed at 9:30 😉
  • First time holding her bottle by herself.
  • First trip to the doctor for sickness.  We had a small bout with adenovirus and croup, but we just let it run it’s course and she’s on the mend!
  • First visit to North Dakota.
