Deadwood, SD

Every winter, we take a weekend trip to Deadwood, SD for A.J.’s company Christmas party.  It has become one of our favorite weekends and we look forward to it all year.

We have stayed a couple of different places, but our favorite by far is The Celebrity on Main Street.  It’s such a nice hotel, and it’s so nice to be within walking distance of everything.  We stayed in a suite this year, and it exceeded our expectations!

There is so much to do in the Black Hills, and this year we tried a couple of new things.  We usually take Saturday to go shopping, but this year we drove to Keystone to see Mount Rushmore.  It had been over 10 years since the last time I was there so it was well worth the trip.  It was absolutely beautiful, especially for February, at 60 degrees, and it wasn’t busy because this is considered their off season.

I highly recommend you take the trail to get up close to see the faces a little better.  On our way back, we made a pit stop at a lake that was absolutely breathtaking.  The whole scenery on our trip to Keystone was unbelievable, and this stop definitely didn’t disappoint!

We arrived back in Deadwood and headed out on Main Street.  There are so many different casinos, bars, shops, and restaurants to hit up!  Our favorite place to eat is The Maverick, upstairs at the Gold Dust casino.  On Friday nights, they have a $6.95 sirloin steak special with a side that is super good!  We love walking through the casinos, Saloon #10, and enjoying the little boutiques and shops along the way.

Overall, Deadwood is a great place for a quick getaway or even a family vacation.  I’m trying to convince the hubby that we should take a summer trip to the Black Hills, but that’s still up for discussion 🙂 .
