Nursery Inspiration- Farm Animals

It seems like it was just a minute ago that I was sitting down to plan out Addison’s nursery, and here we are 3 years later planning out nursery #2! When we were expecting with Addison, we knew she was a girl, so I had a very clear, girly direction that I wanted to take it. However, since we aren’t finding out the gender this time, it makes things a little trickier.

For the most part, I don’t like gender neutral themes for a nursery. BUT, I think I found something that works for both genders that’s not too blah. Plus, my plan for this nursery is to have a neutral base and then add pops of color after the baby is born with pillows, decor accents, etc.

I’m also sticking to a strict budget this time. With Addison’s nursery, I just kept buying and adding things that weren’t 100% necessary, and we honestly spent so little time in her room the first couple of years. While I want cute, I don’t need to break the bank either!

Nursery- Before

This is what we’re starting with. This room has been untouched since we moved in 5 years ago and it’s definitely in need of a face lift!

Yep- those are angry birds on the wall. AND, super thick paint stripes that are going to require sanding and priming before we can even start. Not to mention the beautiful green and blue plaid carpet :(. It just really isn’t my ideal nursery vision.

For the basics, we’re looking at new carpet, paint, and a new light fixture. But I want a little “extra” without the “extra” price tag so this is what I have planned for the nursery.

I’ve wanted to board & batten for a while now, but I didn’t have a room that it worked in. This room is fairly small and the materials I need are minimal. I’ve also really really wanted to put wallpaper up, especially this “pick up sticks” pattern from the Magnolia line– BUT, to cover the top 1/3 of these walls (above the board & batten) would cost just over $400. So, instead, I ordered this stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils and I plan to stencil for the accent pattern.

We are going to keep the same crib we had for Addison, but I want it black. This paint is safe for infants, and one can is enough to cover the crib.

For decor, I have a few baby animal prints picked out, and I found them on Etsy. I would also like a name sign from the Polymathmom (once we have a name picked out!)

I’m hoping to tackle this nursery project SOON, especially since we are almost to the half way point! BUT, if you don’t see a finished reveal before baby comes, don’t send out the search teams. I’m not going to rush through this one!
